Asuf Ishaq

My practice is concerned with themes of embodiment, fragmentation, displacement, migration, post-colonialism and memory, often presenting the physical diasporic body as an evolving archive that transmits experience with cultural and political meaning. My work unravels across spaces and narratives to reveal new meanings and draw out personal histories. Working with narration, words, sound and images, I deploy fiction, non-fiction, archival material, storytelling and personal memories in works that manifests as sculpture, moving image, installation, sound and photography.

I grew up in Birmingham, I studied in Birmingham, Brighton and London. I am a part-time associate lecturer at Camberwell College of Arts on the BA Fine Art Drawing programme.
